We have a lovely size silver and cut glass match striker from 1924/5, assayed in Birmingham with a good hallmark. The item is in good condition with an elegant and simple silver collar and is available at a sales price of £350. (item 316).
A typical decorative household and work place Victorian matchstriker, which became popular in various forms, like pottery, glass and silver and made to suit all budgets. All match strikers would have some kind of rough surface, which could be used to strike a friction based match – which was invented by the English chemist, John Walker, in 1827.
